True Grit by Charles Portis

True Grit

True Grit is the tale of 14-year-old Mattie Ross and her quest for vengeance following the murder of her father. The book is a black comedy. Mattie hires a “One Eyed Fat Man” U.S. Marshal Reuben ‘Rooster’ Cogburn to find, capture or kill Tom Chaney. It’s a good book, and both movies are good too. The Coen Brother’s movie closely follows the book, due in part because the book reads like a screenplay. The book contains more back story and more asides.
