The Sandman by Neil Gaiman

The Sandman Preludes & Nocturnes

The Sandman Preludes & Nocturnes is a comic book, okay a graphic novel, but that still doesn’t excuse this work. I grew up reading comic books so I’m sympathetic to the form, and I love to draw myself. The story of the Sandman is a simple tale of loss and revenge, but I don’t see this as breaking new ground. Dave McKean’s covers are pedestrian and yet much better than the poor pencil and pen work by Kieth and Dringenberg. The coloring by Busch is terrible it actually detracts from the book if that is possible. I was very disappointed by what is suppose to be a classic in the graphic novel genre.
