Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell

Who Goes There?

Who Goes There?is a Science Fiction classic. It was turned into two movies. James Arness, who died recently, played the “The Thing From Another World” in 1951. The movie was remade by John Carpenter in 1982. I watched both recently and wanted to read the 1938 original. The story deals with fear and paranoia in a group of scientists stationed in Antarctica . They discover a 20-million year old frozen alien. When thawed it attacks by replacing members of the group and their animals. The scientists realize they need to wipe out the alien before it escapes Antarctica- where it would be unstoppable. I had trouble keeping the characters straight. I wonder if Campbell made them generic on purpose.
