Think Of A Number by John Verdon

Think Of A Number

Think Of A Number
Is your number 658?
If so, call retired NYPD homicide detective Dave Gurney and hope he solves the mystery before some nut-job kills you. Verdon creates a realistic character in Gurney. Gurney has no special powers except experience and a nimble mind. He also has a helpful but concerned wife. He is pulled out of troublesome retirement to assist the NY State Police to solve an unusual murder.
Gurney finds and solves each clue usually before me (the reader) but not always. The book is a nice blend of police procedural, mystery and thriller.
