Classic Farm Tractors: History Of The Farm Tractor
The book is broken down into nine chapters- each could be a book by itself, so the overall content of the text is a little shallow. It also assumes you have some farming background and know what the terms mean. The photos are excellent and Leffingwell went all over the Midwest and California to find the tractors in this book. He could have covered more popular models and left the oddities for another book.
It would be nice to have a chart showing what companies merged and when.* You could even weight the lines by sales and have an additional scale with crop prices.
The manufacturers reacted to each-other’s tractors, so it would be interesting to see the book laid out so as each new development hit the market we would see the resulting tractor from their competition.
- International Harvester
- White [* my favorite chapter, because of all the mergers.]
