Dog Days by Jon Katz

Dog Days

Author Jon Katz, fulfilled his dreams by leaving life in the big city to run a small farm in upstate New York.  He calls the place Bedlam, and it’s filled with sheep, donkeys, chickens, cows, a cat and several dogs.

In Dog Days, Katz tells the story of his farm and his animals and the connections he has to them.  It is well told and charming.  You can’t help but yearn longingly for a place of your own and a special dog that become your “lifetime dog.”  But Katz doesn’t sugar-coat life on a farm.  It’s plenty of hard work with virtually no time off.

While this is my first Jon Katz memoir – the author has written several about his dogs and his farm.  I especially enjoyed the stories of Rose and Izzy, the working sheep dogs.  Very enjoyable!
