Mule by Toney D’Souza

Mule: A Novel of Moving Weight is the story of a young couple who find themselves unemployed in Austin, TX. They decided to move back to northern California when Kate finds herself pregnant. They are introduced into the world of drug muling when an opportunity to make a lot of cash presents itself. Neither James nor Kate are particularly sympathetic, but the story rings true enough to make for an exciting read. At times it seemed like a novelization of an actual drug mule operation. James makes a lot of mistakes and ends up over his head. Even before this, I left wondered what they were going to do with all the cash. It’s not like you can spend large amounts of cash without explaining in detail where it came from. I recommend this ‘black comedy‘ by D’Souza to anyone who enjoyed “Breaking Bad“.
