The Rooster Bar by John Grisham

The Rooster Bar

The Rooster Bar isn’t a bad book, but it’s not up to the standards I expect from Grisham. The book starts slow and dark. Grisham also gets on his SJW soap box and preaches about the evils of: Law School Mills, massive student loan debt, mental illness, the US legal system, and US immigration policy. Of course he doesn’t have any solutions just more of the same strategies that got us into that mess. But even this wouldn’t deter me. What did give me pause was the dark tone of the first third. It is very depressing, and the characters are unlikable. Once I got to the half-way point the book warmed up into a black comedy. As an Amazon reviewer said, “This book is about unlikable characters trying to screw more unlikable characters who end up screwing everyone.”
